The project
A dialogue between Flanders and Al-Andalus
AwTaaR Moods brings together the captivating voice of Laïla Amezian, the mandolin quartet MANdolinMAN and cellist Léa Besançon for a poetic encounter between Flemish traditional music and Arab-Andalusian repertoire.
Born from a desire for dialogue between cultures, the project explores the shared resonances of two musical traditions rooted in the medieval histories of the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. Crystalline mandolins, expressive melismatic voice and the warm depth of the cello weave a soundscape where strings become bridges between times and worlds.
Ancient melodies are revisited through original arrangements, creating a luminous musical universe that is both grounded and free.

The artists
Laïla Amezian
A Brussels singer of Moroccan origin, Laïla is known for projects where Moroccan traditional music and Arab-Andalusian repertoire meet jazz, classical music, world music, slam poetry and folk.
MANdolinMAN
Belgium’s best-known mandolin quartet, bringing Flemish traditional melodies in an eclectic and contemporary way. Flanders Folk Award winner for Best Album in 2023.
Léa Besançon
A French-Belgian cellist who moves between classical training, new forms of expression and Arabic music. She is part of the core of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra.
